DIY Motion sensing mine

Hey, just had this idea last night when I was coming in the house from a smoke and was surprised by the spray of the landlord's Glade Sense and Spray air freshener.

What this is, is an airfreshener that has a motion sensing device powered by 2 AA batts. When it senses movement, it sprays a quick burst of air freshener. An aerosol can containing the scent is placed inside the unit and an actuator depresses the can to release a burst of freshness.

Here's how it works:

http://www.glade.com/productDetailPa...x?productId=23

Sense and Spray unit costs about $10

Now if you substituted a 40mm airsoft grenade in place of that can, and made a hole for the bb's to shoot out of the top you would have yourself a motion sensing airsoft grenade mine.

Haven't had a chance to pick one up yet, but I'm thinking a new trigger might need to be modded on in case the current on doesnt have the power to depress the grenade.

The Unit may also need to be modded to accomodate grenade as it is larger than a Sense and Spray refill can.

Thoughts?

I have like 8 of these in my house. They're f-ing annoying. Spraying me and my clothes when I walk by. Heck, one of them goes for headshots. Good idea though, destroy these thinggs.

Maybe make a motion sensing turret?

I also have motion sensing lights that work similar.

Wow good idea, Pus. Try it out and see how it works! If I had a 40mm grenade I would love to try this.

You would definitly need a different trig. mech. 40 mm showers (if thats what you were thinking of using are under preasure and are hard to depress as is... buttt if you could find a strong enough trig mech. this would be a great idea.. especially if you had an insurgents game..... could rig up a a little mech box or something and have the piston drives forward and hit the grenade

I doubt it'll have enough force to trigger the M203... but you may be able to modify things...

The triggering is the stickiest part to overcome, once I get one I'll try and have a look. It's just convenient to have the motion sensor and actuator in one unit to start with, at least for people like me who aren't McGyvers

Could also serve as early warning devices with a small circuit and a buzzer.

Now that's thinking. And that wouldn't add too much $ to the price if you lose them.

Wow... that's a friggin good idea! Genius actually! That sounds like something I would build

So, are you thinking electronically? Like, what if you had a solenoid motor release some type of pressurized valve, ie. a grenade? I'm not sure if you could get a solenoid to have the strength, but there's probably some way around it.

you could use an m203 launcher and use a servo to pull the trigger when the sensor goes off?

I don't know what solenoids and servos are that's why I was glad to find something that had the motion sensor and the actuator thing that presses the can in the same unit.

Still haven't made it to the grocery to pick one up, hopefully on sunday if I have any cash left over from the convention.

LOL just had a thought, what if you replaced the can of air freshener with a can of mace? hehehhe

You'd be my hero if you did that and left it in the foyer of a bank.

Pus .. when you get it apart, take some photos and post them so all we can have a look see... I am sure there will be lots of good ideas brought forth. Very interesting. If even just for an alarm trigger. Could be very useful for a sniper, as well as fixed positions.

A solenoid is basically a motor that goes in and out, compared to spinning in a circle. You can buy solenoids, or even make your own. Unfortunately, from some of the solenoid's I've made, it is not very strong. If you Google 'solenoid' or 'homemade', you'll find a bunch of cool stuff. If you find out a way to make it very strong (like a stronger power source) it may just work.
