CA M15A4 Sportline stock switch.

Hi,

I just purchased the CA M15A4 Sportline (metal body) for this upcoming airsoft season on the east coast. I played most of last year using the Kraken AK47, and sold it to do a small upgrade to the Sportline - slow and steady.

I've read through this forum (the sticky on the AK upgrades was very informative, even though I didn't understand some of it) and have been searching for info on changing the butt stock of the CA M15A4.

I have no illusions about the quality of the Sportline, but for right now it fits my budget and experience well. I'm also not especially interested in equiping it with a bunch of aesthetic upgrades (rails, sights, etc) but more with altering it for comfort and effeciency/preformance.

So, my main question: How do I best switch the colapsable stock currently on the CA M15A4 for a solid stock?

My second question: What internal upgrades, if any, would you recommend for this gun (I haven't gamed it yet, so I'm looking for generally accepted upgrades for this model based on its reputation)?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Cheers!

What kind of stock does it have now?

My personal recommendation is a G&P crane stock. It gives you the ability to install anywhere from an 8.4V to 10.8V battery in the stock. It's solid, and looks good too. This is assuming that the gun is wired to the rear. If it isn't, you can still get just the stock without a battery or rewire the mechbox to the rear.

internal upgrades on any airsoft gun can be a pricy endevor. However, this is what i would recommend.

Required Upgrades:

Prometheus V. 2 Springuide
Prometheus 6.03mm Tightbore for M4
Prometheus Airseal Nozzle for M4
Prometheus Hard Piston for M4
ARS V.2 Cylinder Head w/ attached sorbo
ARS V.2 POM Piston Head
Metal Bushings

Secondary Upgrades (in order of importance)

Prometheus Metal One-piece hop-up unit
SCS (Shredder Concave Spacer)
Prometheus Soft Hop-up rubber
KM TN Cylinder
Prometheus 110 or 120 spring to boost FPS (if you really want to)

As for the gears, i wouldn't really worry about them in a CA gun, HOWEVER, it is a sportline, so i dont know as to the quality of their gears. In this case, you could get:

Prometheus Torque up gears (for 400fps) or Promtheus High-speed gears (for sub 350fps).

In either case, a good quality battery is needed.

Im not sure about the motor in the sportline. other people would be better in that area, however, if you want to replace the motor for better trigger response (again, you need a good battery), Guarder infinite torque or Systema Magnum are good choices.

hope that helps.

Crunch - The battery is housed in the foregrip, and I have purchased a new one. Currently the gun is fitted with a stock similar to this:

Don - Thanks for those recommendations. Is the first list in order of importance as well? I know price can vary on upgrades but could you give me a ballpark on what's worth spending to improve this particular gun?

Thanks.

More advice is welcome.

the first list isn't listed with regards to importance. I dont know much about the sportline guns. in that case, if you are looking for PURELY performance... a tightbore would be your best bet.

as for spending on your gun? not much. it isn't worth it IMHO. tightbore, because at least then you can swap that into another gun. Honestly, it isn't recommended to upgrade your gun off the bat. learn the ins and outs of airsoft ballistics and such.

personally, play with your gun, when you are ready to upgrade, buy a new (better) gun, and upgrade that to the max.

Don - Any thoughts on changing the stock? I'm wondering what's involved i.e. is this something I can do myself with minimal chance of complication? I live in a two bedroom apartment with my wife, so work space is limited.

no sorry man, i cant help you there. ive never owned any Armalite style guns. That is why i didn't post anything up. I agree with Crunch, a solid stock will allow you to use a big battery, which IMHO, is a huge plus.

as for upgrades, those i do know. Modify is a good company as well, i think they are a little cheaper than prometheus. Either way, you can go wrong with Modify or Prometheus.

The list i gave you is VERY comprehensive. But for a sportline, i dont know if installing all of them will be worth it (especially from the economic aspect).

If you dont want to rewire your gun to the rear, just get a magpul stock. they look and feel great.

Installing a new stock is a 5 minute job requiring 2 bolts to be removed. You'd really have to be totally inept to screw that up.

- Remove the existing sliding stock by pulling the adjustment paddle (whatever it's called) down and sliding it off.

- Remove the plug off the end of the stock tube. Usually requires an allen key.

- use a long star screwdriver and go down the stock tube and unscrew the main screw holding it in place.

- reverse the process with a new stock tube and stock

Although the G&P stock I recommended doesn't have the plug at the end, because it's designed to have the wiring run through it for the battery. So reassembly is even easier if you're not rewiring the gun to the rear.
