M4//M16 battery housing clarification
So im about to purchase a M4//M16 and it seems like theres problems housing a large battery. Possible solutions i have read about are:
-placing it into front where u place ur hand -placing it into some buffer tube then into retractable stock -placing it into a full stock -crane battery? Well i would perfer putting the battery into the retractable stock because it looks soo nice. Does this mean i can purchase a buffer tube then fit the tube in the existing retractable stock? Could someone please help me clarify how this can be done? I would also like to know other ways of housing the battery in the M4//M16. |

Putting a battery into a buffer tube would only work if you had LiPO
To fit a large in the stock you need to get a crane stock/JG Hk416/star crane stock that can accept a large battery (I assume by large battery you mean SubC cells) http://www.combatdepot.com/images/STOCK-02-FS-BK.jpg Another way to go is if you have a PEQ box, a large battery wont fit into your handguard So to get a large battery into your gun you can either: - a PEQ for the front rail system - a Fake RediMag - Crane stock - Full stock - Battery stock http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwol...l?prodID=24066 http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwol...l?prodID=23410 - Battery sling - Battery pouch Those are I believe all the ways u can stick a large battery (SubC cells) onto an AEG, If I forgot some please feel free to add to my list. |

So the crane stock is basically a retractable stock (the one with 6 positions) with a tube for batteries? I think im going to go with this method. The only place ive seen with this stock is airsoftparts.ca Does anyone know where i might be able to find a cheaper one?

Keep in mind that most if not all collapsible stock m4's are front wired. So if you want to add a crane stock or any other rear battery solution you're probably going to have to rewire it from front to rear. Unless you're confident in opening up your mechbox and rewiring it then you'll have to account for the cost of a gundoc and shipping to and from.
My personal opinion is if you want to use a large battery then get a full stock m4. That'll already have it rear wired. If you want to change it to a crane stock then you can still do that but it'll save you the trouble of rewiring. And who knows, maybe you'll find that the full stock feels fine and not have to mess with it at all.

im thinking of buying the G&G A4 M16 with a crane stock so i dont have to do any of this stuff. Also comes nicely with a rail too.

If you're referring to a carry handle rail then that's not really much of a consideration, you can pick one of those up in the classifieds for $10-20.

Some Crane stocks hold large (sub-C) batteries...while others hold Crane-style-configuration small battery packs. So with those...you get the look, but not the functional benefits of large batteries.
With some Crane stocks that hold large batteries...you are often not able to fully close the stock. And, a lot of guys chop/break their wires by accident...it's just fiddly with the wires. Again...you get the look, maybe not the most user-friendly function. This may just be my own opinion...but PEQ boxes that hold large batteries seem HUGE. Lipo's are a good alternative of fitting lots of battery power into smaller/tight spaces. You need to decide for yourself if you understand them, and can use them properly. Quite a few guys around here use LiPo batteries. The HK417/416 type collapsible stock uses a different config of large battery. They tend to be expensive because they are not "regular" packs. But, because of the way the battery is held in the stock you don't have the collapsing/wiring issues as with Crane stocks. The look of them isn't for everyone...I find them quite comfortable and the weight right at the end helps to balance the rifle (especially an all metal one). Full stocks rarely have any issues holding a large battery. Most all hold 8.4v packs easily...some are tight with 9.6v packs. Personally, I find the reach of a full stock just a little bit too long for comfort. Best of luck. (Go with the crane stock...even if you switch it around later, you'll be pretty sure of reselling the stock later) Tys |
