Prowin gearbox questions

I've decided to use a V2 prowin 7mm or 8mm on my upcoming M16 build and I'd like to straighten a few things out.

1) Can these gearboxes run heavy springs such as a PDI 190% or 210%? I plan to use at least a 190.

2) Does it accept modular gearsets? I'm planning to use a Modify high torque set.

3) Are the pistons proprietary or can standard V2 pistons be used? The gearboxes come with a "fibre" piston. Some people say that stock V2 pistons fit with some modification, others say that it won't...

thanks

P.S For anyone about to suggest systema gearboxes or internals, don't bother. I've had some very negative experiences with both their parts and gearboxes...

1) Yes, it can handle springs that heavy and much heavier

2) I wouldn't consider the Modify gear sets to be "modular" (since they're locked in... get it?), but I actually don't know the answer to that. I've never handled the Modify gear sets before. The inside of the gearbox is very spacious though, so it's possible.

3) The 7mm version uses proprietary pistons and you'd have to do fairly extensive modifications to fit another piston to fit.

2) I wouldn't bet on the modify ones fitting, the 7mm (the one I have) has fairly specific groves for the gears, the plates that secure the modify gears together would prevent proper fitment I imagine.

Thanks for the replies...

I'll probably be using the 7mm one... I'm planning to run it in a Dboys body. I've also noticed that it requires the upper receiver to tilt forward to separate the halves... My body doesn't tip at all. It doesn't have the "tabs" at the back to allow it to tip forward. The upper is meant to slide straight back... How would I get around this issue?

It doesn't need the tabs to tilt forward.

I don't think it's mechanically possible for the upper to slide BACKWARDS off the lower receiver, no matter what gun it's on... I think something's wrong with your statement.

The tilting/sliding may just be an issue regarding how the receiver mates to the gearbox and has nothing to do with the receiver at all.

If you have no gearbox installed, you *should* be able to break the receiver open with a swinging motion.

Sorry, I meant to say it slides on backwards... Is the upper half of the prowin "attached" to the upper like the ICS? Most of my knowledge of 2 piece gearboxes are limited to a buddy's ICS...

Best of luck with the Dboys body.

The upper mechbox isn't "attached" until you slide it all together and put your body pins in. It's your body pins that keep the hole thing togethor.
