CF M870

Well, its been one of my longest running projects but its finally, basically done.. For now..

Started as a Maruzen M870. Much of the credit for this should go to Mr Jon.

In short I've got her full metal and working on CO2. I would give a list of parts but I honestly cant remember whats in it. The stock and a couple internal bits are still original, thats pretty much it at this point.

I prefer clean shotguns but given the CF loadout I'm working on again I suppose I'll say its based off the CF version of the Remmington 870 seen below. I do have a side saddle for it, but I'm still working on a way to mount it without the rail getting in the way.

Enough talk, PICS!

HAWT!!!

Where did you hide the CO2? I have very much wanted to revive my own 870 project, but after getting frequent jamming problems in the shell loader (misfed shells and dropped bbs jamming the mechanisms) I've decided to go with a magazine loaded design concept whenever I can make the time.

The 870 is possibly the most aesthetically pleasing ASG I've blasted stuff with. The experience of loading shells thru the bottom and flinging them out the side inspires a primal evil grin like that first one when you first revved up the chainsaw in Doom.

Resist cranking up the pressure to 260psi. I started to crack my valve body around there.

NICE GUN! Seeing this I might get one instead of a super 90 because this ones looks shmexier. Can you use greengas/propane? airsoft gi says hfc123. What kind of fps does it take? How many shells can it fire on one charge of gas? what kind of weight does it have?
Thanks

Oz, super sexy shotgun man. Nice work on the conversion, is it fairly reliable?

Bottom left is a Diemaco C7CT and they look to be running Browning HP's on the hips (also Canadian issue)

Thanks for the kind words guys, I'm really pleased with how it all ended up fitting together. I am tempted to paint it... just havnt decided if I want to get the balls to do it or not.

Unfortunatly my CO2 rig doesnt have a pressure gauge on it (ghetto, I know.. but space is a concern, I may try and fit one in the stock later). I'm running one of those KWC 12g rigs hosed through the stock and into the Eagle stock pad. Drilled a hole and have the hose coming in through the side so its all nice and hidden. I havnt had the chance to do any formal tests as I just got it all working and together last night but cranked it seems to be running somewhere around 500fps-ish with a single BB. I'll definently keep her a bit lower and watch the valve body until I get a gauge in there though.

As for reliability, theres the odd missload or a shell failing to eject fully but all in all its pretty solid. I did some work on the ejector and it only seems to have issues if I rack it limp wristed or too quick and catch the shell on its way out. If anyone has a source for extra loading ramps I would buy a box though. I'm seriously considering having some CNC'd as the only one I have at the moment is missing one of the arms. (Max I'm looking at you!).

If you'r looking to get a shotgun I would go for the Tanaka 870 series. They're newer, are already full metal and are easier to mod. The Maruzen M870 series have their quarks but are a lot of fun to work on and unbelievable to shoot and rack when fully kitted, max described it best. The TM series are good, but for me the shotgun expirence is loading shells, racking the metal pump and watching a handfull of BBs fly everywhere. TM's are good, but if you get one and use a Maruzen or Tanaka you will be dissapointed with your TM.

As for the bayonet, I was told it was the US M6 but it appears to be the old US M1 Grand.. Its only there until I can get a proper CF bayonet.

Thanks again for the comments guys! Its always nice to get such positive feedback from such established and respected modders! Keep it coming!

Is the unblurred face you? I remember seeing this pic in SOF a while ago when they were talking about the PPCLI in Afghanistan. Nice kit and gun by the way, jealous, jealous, jealous!

How often does it jam? Also i am buying the shotgun from a friend new for around 300 so if i was to buy the tanaka it would cost me like 2 or so hundred more, Is it really worth it? Does the Tanaka work the same way?
