Paintball Approved Goggles
What constitutes a "paintball approved goggle"? How will you know if it is or not? Are the Bolle X800s PBA? Would most paintball fields let you play with any safety goggles?
To me it seems all in an grey area, I mean I've heard people say they won't allow tactical ballistic goggles (i.e. x800s) at paintball fields, yet these same goggles are built to higher standards than so-called "paintball approved goggles"... can anyone explain this? Thanks!

If it says "paintball" on the packaging, it's paintball approved. There isn't really any "grey" area on this because you don't see issues or posts about this on the forums have you? Unless, you have a story where this "grey" area about paintball goggles came into play...
It does not matter if your X800s are built to higher standards, it all comes down to insurance with the paintball field. In their waivers, it says the use of paintball approved only goggles. It does not say anything about ballistic, or shooting glasses. Only paintball... p-a-i-n-t-b-a-l-l. In their insurance clauses with whatever insurance firm paintball places are associated with, it says again, paintball goggles only. P-a-i-n-t-b-a-l-l.

Umm.... any goggles used for paintball. Go to any paintball website or store, anything they sell will be paintball approved.
This does NOT include any ballistic goggles such as Bolle's. Yeah they may be able to stop a shotgun round, and be a lot more safe to use than paintball goggles, but they aren't paintball approved, so legally you cant use those. |

Bolles can stop a shotgun round...well I wouldn't want to be alive after though....having goggles imprinted onto my face...that would suck...

Tactical goggles surpass the impact protection of paintball goggles. However "paintball goggles" were designed to protect the eyes, face, mouth, neck, temples, etc from the impact of the paintball. Also the mask part is designed to prevent a paintball from striking around the edge of the goggle frame and getting to the eye by bypassing the lens assembly.
Also in regards to paintball fields requiring "paintball approved goggles" and not accepting ballistic goggles, despite their superior protection to impact, is the fact that the field insurance requires "paintball approved goggles" other wise the coverage go "bye bye" if there is an accident and the field is sued etc. And that there may be a chance for exposure to an actual paintball, depending on what time you are playing on the field. |

Does anyone know where I can get ballistic or PBA lenses that would fit issued SWS Goggles? (or have some for sale)

There isn't really PBA lenses. There are just paintball approved goggles.
Umm' not really sure how to explain it.... I guess it is like saying. "Are there ballistic plates that I can add to my down vest to make it a ballistic protection system." You need to go out and get a ballistic protection system whose components were designed to work together for that purpose. |

http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortmen...romSearch=true I removed the mask and there you go. You have your googles. |

But keep the mask part around in case the field that you end up playing on requires you to have the full mask and not just the goggles.

I'm also going to buy some goggles from Crappy Tire. Probably the 39.99 set. I'll never use the mask though because I have a balaclava/helmet.

So then would a paintball field be okay if you appeased their PBA mask rule by purchasing a full mask, but only using the goggle part?
(i.e. buy a JT spectra, but then remove the bulky face mask, and only use the goggles?)
