TLP 4000 not fully charging

Howdy good docs,

I bought a TLP 4000C off ASC a month or so ago, and since then, I didn't really have time to charge my bats to full power. Now, before going to a game, I plug one of them, which is an NI-Cd 8.4V 1200mAh in, and charge it up @ the lowest setting, which is 0.5A. Alright, everything's fine. Note that I didn't use the discharge function on it before charging.

After an hour or so, the battery's not even warm, but I guess that's normal, since i'm only charging it at 0.5, I plug it up to my gun, and I notice my motor is running at a much slower speed than usual. I meter my batt's voltage, and it's at 7.39V.

I plug it back in the charger again, then half an hour later, it decides it's full. Now, it's even lower than it was! 7.33V.

I say screw it, take the wart-charger, until it's warm. I get 8.04V out of it. Six hours later, it's still at 8.04V, so it can hold a charge.

Is that charger borked, or is there something i'm not getting here?

It's a NiCD battery. Maybe it has bad charge memory now.

Use NiMH's, they're much better and don't care when/how long you charge them.

According to the whole "pulse charger" gimmick, it's supposed to break the crystals causing memory. I'll do a full discharge, but I have to space out the sessions. It does it at 4A, and it gets way too hot for my liking. I've already done two full discharges in the past, and didn't use it that much to begin with.

UPDATE : Charged it, started at 8.04V according to multimeter. TWO cycles, at 3A. Didn't even get warm, and instead, went down to 7.79V. What. The. Derp.

Throw it away then, and buy a good new battery.

The funny part is, the wart charger actually got it up to 8.35V just now. If I could only find the output of that thing, I could try it on my charger, the max being 5.5A

UPDATE : I'ts down to 8.17V after 45 minutes
