Short M16 (Vietnam Type) Magazine Pouches
Hello, all. I am looking for suitable mag pouches for the short m16 magazines for my Sniper set up. I have the "shingle and 3 stack" type, but I find them too deep to reach into. I currently do not have any 7.62 type pouches, but I think this type might be a bit wider than the 5.56 magazines.
Any recommendations? |

Well, theres two things you can do.
What I did, was I used newspaper or a wood block to 'fill' the bottom of the magpouch. That way the magazine didn't sink in too far. Ontop of that, I used tape and rope to make magpuls to fish them out more easily as well. |

Ah, now that's out-of-the-box thinking. Will definitely consider that. Thank you.

Surplus stores... I picked up 3 FAL pouches for 6 bucks, and they fit 3 VN mags perfect with room of course, this just gives your fingers room to grab em.

Renegade, with 7.62 pouches, does the 5.56 mag bounce and move substantially when running, or is it tolerable?

Tactical Tailor makes a molle solution for the VN mags.. a 3 mag shingle with the elastic keepers. Too expensive for my blood though... if you're willing to go old school the site Renegade pointed out has some great pouches but be warned, once you buy one vietnam thing you'll need to buy more.. it's addictive.
Personally i'd go with the wood block solution especially if you've already got mag pouches.

Very little, just enough room around them to get your fingers in, they are like Brittish or something, very old school.

Have you tried Blue Force Gear Ten Speed pouches?
These would work well as long as you put a magpul on your magazine.

Looks like it's stretchable material that will "squeeze" it in place. Am I right?

Yeah it's just a glorified elastic band. Should fit 7.62 mags like FAL or G3 as well. Oneshottactical out of Trenton sells them.

Not exactly sure how tall the VN mags are, but would the short ATS M4 pouches work?
