I have not a damned clue, you'll have to ask Western Arms how they pulled that off
it looks convincing don't it. There are other guns I would enjoy bluing if this was possible. I may attempt a do it yourself bluing on a metal framed KJW M9 one day just to see if its possible. Because that would kick ass.

Just a question what does it mean on a RS when the material is blued? Tougher resistance to outside damage?

Heh, thats easy to do.
5 min quick dry spray paint, get a good coat on, while eating greasy Potato chips, when it gets tacky just not quite dry you take your greasy fingers and smear the paint. You'll see the finger prints on the gun, here I done it to a plastic M4.

I dunno....the blued look looks kinda odd when you look at where it is blued. I mean I don't imagine the slide gets that hot on real gun for that to happen. And if it were a heat treating mark then the the distribution is too uneven....it kinda look more like oily(like motor oil) refraction than heat mark....
cool finish for WA to put on a plastic nonetheless... |

Unfortunately it was all the handling of the gun constantly left my prints all around. If you get finger oils on here, you can 'move' the finish around. However if you wipe then gun down, the finish isnt as noticeable, its been a bit oiled up to exaggerate and bring out the finish when being photographed mind you.

Blueing is a process in which oxidizing chemicals are added to the steel to create a protective coating. It is basically black-blue coloured oxide of iron.
There are chemicals you can buy to blue your gun, this is cold blueing. Also there is hot blueing, where steel parts are dipped in a solution of boiling water and nitrates, chromates. BTW that Beretta really gives a good impression of blueing.
