Fitment issues..
Well... I can't say I didn't know I would be getting into a bit of a headache switching my G&G plastic receivers over to metal but...
I picked up two Colt TM Dboys bodies from here for each of my G&G GR16s.. The receiver itself looks good except for Colt actually reading Colti and all seems to fit well together or so it seemed. After I had my gearbox in and everything put together I realized my fire selection switch was VERY stiff and when it did move, the actual selector plate didn't. As soon as I took off the upper, the switch moved just fine. Put it back on, same thing. It seems as though something is getting pinched when the upper goes on. I also noticed staring up into the magwell that the air nozzle didn't seem aligned with the hopup?? Now I'm kinda wondering if its a hopup issue maybe, because I have the original plastic hopup and I'm not wondering if a metal hop would help here. The barrel looks good and straight in the outer barrel. Anyway, has anyone had this issue with these bodies. I know they are hit and miss.. I obviously missed. I even tried the other body, same thing. Any suggestions??

The selector thing behind the switch on these bodies is very thick. File off a bit of it and that should solve your selector switch issue.

The disc on the back of the selector on DBoys bodies are very thick. Either dremel it down or replace it with another and you should be ok.
You may also have to sand the inside of the mag well to get mags to fit properly.

Ok I'll give that a try tomorrow when I finish work. With that said I did try the original switch from the plastic version (plastic thingy instead of the metal.) I didn't really compare thickness but I ran into the same issue with that as well.
I'll let you know tomorrow. I was also thinking of filing the inside of the body in that whole general area down a bit too? Good idea or bad?

As I mentioned already too I think I may "clean" the inside of the body out around the selector plate area.

The body itself should be fine. It's that damn selector disc. That thing caused me no end of gried on my C8 until I found out what was wrong...
As for mags, make sure ALL your mags fit. In my C8 body, high caps fit perfectly, as did my G&P Thermold mags (yeah, I know now that they suck). But any other standard metal mags wouldn't fit at all, even with force. So just in case, you may want to try other mags to ensure fit before you get the whole gun together then have to take it apart again to sand the magwell. It may be fine though.

You do have a one piece hopup chamber right?

Well I couldn't leave it be till tomorrow. Took the dremel out. Took off a bit. It has helped for sure, but I need to take more off.
I think I may have tried too hard to turn it though, think I may need a replacement disc... oops. Any suggestions for a good replacement for that piece? Oh something else I was wondering - on the plasticc version, when you want to take that selector disk out, you just pop the plastic piece off on the other side and voila - you can access the inside with a screw driver. I tried today on this metal body and could not for the life of me do that with this body. I ended up dremeling a phillips drill bit that I could slide inside and twist with a pair of pliers. Does this panel actually come off or is it just cosmetic and not able to be removed???

It's probably crazy glued in...(but I don't know 100%). The little 5 year old had to have put it in somehow right? I'm sure you'll figure it out! HAHAHA
If you're "loosened" your selector disk/lever fit by reefing on it...just buy a new one unless you have an extra disk/lever kicking around. You can't fix that. The disk is rubbing on the spur gear bushing. If you look closely at the disk, you should see where it's rubbing. File that part...don't just file the whole thing. If it's tight, file it down, put the mechbox back in with the flora pin and rear pin, try it. If it's still tight, remove mech, file and try again. If it finally works, put the mechbox in with all the pins, grip and stock tube and tighten everything appropriately...try again. Adjust as necessary. Don't round the edge of the disk...or it might slip on the selector plate. Also watch that while the mech is pinned into the lower that when you select full...it's actually shooting full (need the grip/motor for that). If it's not, check the very rear of the selector plate that it's not hitting the inside of the body. These pain in the a** troubles are why I refuse to install Dboys bodies any more...takes forever. Best of luck, Tys |
