G&G MP5 Safety issue
Hey all,
I have the Umarex H&K MP5A4 Elite made by G&G. I have an issue, when the gun has its safety on, if you pull on the trigger with only a moderate amount of force, the gun slips out of safety. When the gearbox is out, it seems like the safety lever works well when I engage it by hand and pull the trigger. I was just wondering what else it may be at this point? Could something be worn down or perhaps misaligned? I was just wondering where I should start to look.

A few things here,
1. Spring which makes engagement between the cutoff lever and selector plate is misaligned or insufficient 2. Tabs on the trigger block are worn, replace trigger block 3. (Worst case, most likely) Selector tab (the one which attaches to the external selector lever and directly manipulates the selector plate on the GB) is worn, warped, or otherwise damaged. Replacing this part will require a) sourcing an exact G&G part, or b) replacing both the tab and the plate with matching parts of a different brand and hoping it likes the attachment bar for the external selectors. Those are the first best bases to hit, but that's if your G&G is currently completely stock. If you have a different brand's gearbox in there, then you're just swirling the time drain of G&G MP5 necromancy and you'll have to get creative. Can you give us any more details on this gun, it's overall age, it's working age, any known parts or mods, etc? |

Thanks!
The gun is about 1 year old, and only used about 5 or 6 times indoor 45 minute games. I had immediately opened it and put in an M90 spring into it when I got it so it could be used indoors. After that, with the help of a shitty (but brand new) chrono, I had it open a few times replacing the spring with an M100 spring. I will have to check my parts, because I think I may have another G&G MP5 selector tab!

Fixed
So I did get it working. What I ended doing was replacing the trigger and the safety lever (both sides) with one I had from a parted out gear box. There is a tiny bit of paint wear on the trigger I took out, so I will try to paint it up a bit to thicken it and add some friction and put it in next time I have my gearbox open. Really weird though...

Alrighty! Glad to hear it worked out!
This is sort-of 'one of those things' for MP5s. Depending on the brand, the selector assembly can be a fairly major failure point just based on the way they're designed. The MP5 selector assembly is one of the most complicated (and most vulnerable to wear and tear) systems out there. The 'big circle' type is probably the most robust, but even then, you'll eventually develop stripping between the bar and the plate. It's just one of their quirks. Congrats on buying a nice MP5 though, those Umarex G&Gs are a hot dish. |
