Would airbrush propellent work wit GBB???
Hey guys, i'ts been awhile since I posted here. I kinda got out of the sport for about a year but now im back in.
Now I was at wal mart (lol) looking for airbrush propellent for my airbrush. Then on the drive home I was thinking "hey this stuff is kinda simular to duster gas", like both make air lol :lol: . I did a search here and nothing came out, only the "letra jet?"(I think thats wut it's called) stuff was mentioned. Lets say we can stick the AI duster adapter on to it, then my friends we might have a new gas to put in our GBB's ![]() Thanks for your time and suggestions if you give any.

if you read the AI site it says he tried out various airbrush propellants and since he doesnt have an adapter for it i doubt it would work very well

LetraJet is an airbrush propellant I used to use before I discovered the contents of green gas cans. It required a significantly different adaptor design than my current design owing to it's different valve fittings.
LetraJet was actually HCFC-22 and has been discontinued because of it's ozone depleting properties. Aerosol use of HCFC-22 (READ HCFC, not HFC) have been federally phased out in 2000 so I caught the tail end of LetraJet sales just as I got into airsoft (I've played 7 years?!). If you have a can of HFC-134a (tetrafluoroethane), you've got a can of lower pressure propellant (lower than propane), but higher pressure than HFC-152a (difluoroethane) which is becoming prevalent because of increased usage of HFC-134a in the refrigerant industry. There has not been a significant increase in 134a production, but there has been a significant increase in 134a use in refrigerant which is why we see bottlers switching to 152a which is not as good a refrigerant.

Honestly if it was a HFC-134a mixture I would have bought a trunk full of testors airbrush propellant. But even im not sure of whats inside the can, it just says ozone safe (prob not HFC-134a then) and a long long list of first aid advice. I would have used propane, but im more of a indoor person, so the smell of propane in the basement is kinda lets say dangerous lol cause theirs a furnace, I don't want a explosion to go off.

HFC134a is not ozone depleting. Look carefully, USDOT requires disposable cans state their contents. You should be able to see what's in your propellant.

I honestly didn't know HFC134a issnt a ozone depleter, the fools at kuramae told me that, now im a fool for listening to them. It's not a big deal once you actually get out to an indoor field, those facilities are usually many thousand sq ft so the gas dissipates rapidly..

By basement I mean my tiny closet sized basement (exaggeration lol ). I just line up some targets down there, a GBB is just to keep me from dying of bordom on weekends. In fact the term for me is chairsofter lol. Sorry if my post had any confusion. So yea im definetly concerned about using propane in my basement, it could ignite my backside lol and it smells, I almost die when lighting up the BBQ. If those factors are gone I would have definitly have gone for propane, cheap n powerful.

Your second pic states the contents pretty clearly.
Propane and isobutane blend. I'm guessing a 50psi ish blend similar to what's in MSR camp stove fuel.

Nope. It will suck. Straight propane exerts around 120psi at room temp. Most propane-butane blends I've come across exert only 50psi which is even less than hfc134a at 70psi.

what about just strait air? refill your mags with one of those small containers then refill your container with an aircompressor. it would be cheap for people that dont mind topping up a tank every game day

Straight air wouldn't work, as there would be no liquid. You could get it up to 120psi, but then the pressure would drop dramatically after each shot. You need the liquid in there to "resupply" the gas/pressure.
