Read everything he wrote; sounds to me like a teen wanting to show off the gun and hoping an empty mag makes it OK.
Show me a gun shop willing to sell anything to a teenager, specially a part that normally goes in a real assault rifle? Legal or not, the answer is 'not likely to happen'.
A broken AEG mag would be simpler, or not having such in plain view even better.
If the gun gets shown anyway against better judgement; remove the battery and dont provide ammo.
No matter how you cut it, this still sounds like he wants to show it off, and I bet he's about 14. He can prove this last assumption wrong by getting age-verified.
