My plan was

to not have a "medic" person... but to have a Medic "place"
Anyone can apply the first aid ( other than the injured party) but this means that at least 2 people must withdraw from the fight to deal with a casualty.. and in some cases 3 people.

It also means that the Aid station must be frequently relocated either to keep up with the fight or withdraw it from danger... It adds another "logistical" element to the operation.

I agree that Red flags to signify "dead" is a good idea and should be implemented in general.
