Exactly what Kedirkin said.
My old house insurance had my firearms written into it since we rented.
My new insurance since we bought a house covers it up to a certain amount. I assume we would have to prove the value in some way if something ever happened.
If you live with your folks or someone else chance are they will not be covered.
