Just be warned that opening the mechbox is one thing, putting it back together is entirely another. You may wish to seek the services of a trained gunsmith to help you, and ask him if its ok to watch him work, its really helps to see someone proficient go through it once.
That piece that fell out is the motor plate that fits in the bottom of the hand guard cap. It allows the grub screw on the bottom of the cap to push the motor into alignment with the gears just right. You need this piece, or a similar replacement or you will ruin the teeth on your motor gear, if it even fires at all. Vondnik did warn of this in his list ;0)
Sometimes when I lose small pieces, I sweep (or vacuum if you must) and go through the dust pan until I find it.
