Is it possible to swap out the front end for a RIS, and still contain the battery?

You can't put a mini battery inside your RIS front end, not enough space. That's why they usually come with fake laser units so you can hide your battery inside. Also, if you don't plan to buy lots of random accessories like flashlights, lasers etc just stick with your normal handguards.
