that hard shell plastic is heat shrink. it's a different material fo heatshirnk then the stuff you buy at say radio shack or Canadian tire. but it works and does the exact same thing. It just has the advantage of being harder when shrunk and much much thinner.

the trick I learned to shrink it smooth is to use yoru stove, set it to medium heat and hold above the element a goof 3 - 5 inches.. rotate the battery around and you'll get a nice smooth and tight shrink every time. heat guns and lighters might/will burn the shrink and you'll have to start again .. the store gives offa nice even and relativly low ammount of heat that is just right to use with this stuff.
