It really depends on what characteristics of your gun you're looking to improve. Accuracy, Reliability, ROF, Trigger Response...
Flat-hopping or R-hopping your hop up are the best things you can do to improve your accuracy. A Flat-hop will cost you ~$20 (free if you use your existing hop rubber and make the nub yourself), and is pretty easy to do. There are plenty of good tutorials out there.
