what are you doing exactly for your aoe adjustment and how are you doing it?

stripping the whole or most of the piston is premature engagement due to compression jamming. Either you have a nozzle to bucking seal failure that seals enough to keep air in the system but not good enough to shoot the bb, either that or your hop is set too high and is creating too much resistance causing it to compression jam. Path of least resistance in either scenario is back through the piston so it delays the piston travel and the gears grab in the middle of the forward stroke.

If you are using a 1 tooth or partial steel rack piston, the rack could be failing and caving in, causing plastic teeth to bear the release load, teeth progressively fail backwards towards pickup.

I futz with V2s, V3s and V6s. I could be wrong... but probably, most likely not, as far as I know.
