Solder the wires so that they are routed closer to the body of the motor and have a smaller chance of being tugged as the gearbox is inserted.

Also take a multimeter, remove the grip plate, cycle the gearbox. When the gearbox seizes, take the multimeter and confirm that there is no continuity between the motor poles to see if it is the issue I suspect it to be.
