A mouth guard is a simple and comfortable alternative. Your teeth aren't getting shot out while wearing one. You can cut off the rear portion (the part that covers your molars) since it's not really needed. You can drink while wearing one as well as talk if you don't mind sounding slightly mealy-mouthed.

With eye protection and a mouthguard all you have to worry about is the flesh. The permanents are out of harm's way. Stock guns are certainly enough to break teeth, skin, and eyeballs.
