Going with the Alpha LT, was a totally personal choice as I wanted a light weight packable shell that would not add to much weight or take up too much room in my pack. I do a lot of mountaineering and hiking in the summer where the most I will usually encounter weather wise is a torrential downpour for at most a few hours. When I do go hiking in the winter I would rather have the option of layering rather being forced to carry a much bulkier garment that for my purposes would limit my options. The LT is not the right option got everyone, but as I said in my write up; if you are looking for and amazing pro shell that is both light in weight, and highly compactible you will be hard pressed to find a better choice than the Alpha LT.
