from my understanding the release is connected to the selector switch somehow, I'm guess a tab that the selector hits on the outside of the mechbox shell that's hooked up to the anti reversal latch?
So without having looked inside, I'd say either a piece that works between the selector and anti reversal is missing, or the original anti reversal is proprietary and has a release mechanism on it?
