Usually, you don't need everything to start an impression. Unless you're doing a "just-walked-out-of-Quartermasters office" or "jumped-right-out-of-the-plane", lots of gear got "lost" or just stayed behind during operations.

Get the uniform, helmet and belt/suspenders with a first aid kit, mag pouch and canteen and you'd be good to go for a basic infantry kit.
