I've been using them for a while on my RS with one mag per pouch so I'm not having issues with the grooves on the mag.

And to answer the question on Pmag : no, the HK417 uses specific mags because it's not a long gearbox, the barrel continues inside the receiver and the hop up is exactly at the same place as in a M4. Even on my RS I don't use Pmags given it's a lot easier to see how much rounds I have left.
