Co-witnessing does not mean co-zeroing. All it means is that you want to still be able to see your irons through the optic.
Then when your battery dies (and it will) you can still line up a shot.
Zero the irons first, then zero the optic.
On something like an AK a good co-witness can be tough but it's still something to try for.
