Surefires work good and are usually quite reliable, but are also overpriced for what you get. Fenix lights are awesome for their quality/performance/price ratio.
The Element repros of the Surefires have probably the best ratio around. They take rechargable CR123 without issues (I ran 3x 3.6v ones... which output 3x4.2v when fully charged; didn't burst anything and gave an awesome light output!)
That is, if you don't mind having knockoffs.
