If your looking for extra things to throw in those utility pouches, I like keeping a couple Granola bars/power bars in my extra pouches.
Also, I HIGHLY recommend a hydration system. Canteens are okay, but a camelback is a great idea. Backpack style or MOLLE attached, either are fine.
On a hot summer day, you can get de-hydrated quickly without even noticing it.
