I don't think I have ever actually seen someone use one though. A good GGB pistol will get you through until you can make it back to the staging area to grab your backup.

Ill all seriousness though, unnecessary weight isn't good idea. First game I came to I was so stupidly over-dressed I could barely move. By the end I had taken almost all of my gear off for the added mobility.

EDIT: I did see a sniper with an MP5K on a single point sling, that seemed like a good idea to me, but other then that I wouldn't bother.
I don't mean for if you run out of ammo, I just mean a different tool for a different job.
