If the gear spin freely without the motor in place, they should be fine. Have you adjusted your motor height? There's a screw in the bottom of the grip to adjust it. If it's up too high, it's too tight and the gun jams, not firing. Loosen a 1/4 turn, fire, another 1/4 turn and so on until it fire ok and doesn't sound whiney.
Alternately (and the first thing to check), is your battery fully charged? If you're running those 2000mAh, 8.4v batteries I seen some come with, they don't have the grunt to power the Advanced models for long, if at all. and how are you charging the battery?
