really, if you've not tried the real 'built-in' knee pads you have no right to say squat.
i used to use a set of skater kneepads (no idea what brand but they cost 50/60 english pounds when i bought them years ago, amazing and comfortable as hell) that i thought i'd never get rid of but after using the built-in versions ONCE i've realised i won't go back.
my only 'gripe' is that they seem to be a tad stiff, almost didn't make a large jump across a trench..
anyway, +1 on the 'buying quality'
and also, if you really want everything to match, buy real, not replica.
my plate carrier is the HSGI Weesatch, all pouches are either Tac tailor or HSGI.. (oh, radio pouch is from UR-Tactical and i have on rolly-polly dump pouch by EGLI i think) and the colors match very well. on all the tac gear it's a perfect match, all 1000D and the uniform is only slightly off due to the difference in material, but when you compare the 500D on the knees to the 1000D tac gear, it's a match.
the ability to un-zip the sides and cool off (cyprus, 40 degrees centigrade in the shade here) is a biiiig plus.
it's jsut the sheer quality that is emitted from the UR-tactial stuff..
it actually feels like you have a great deal, like they didn't just make a 50% margin after everything..
