Assuming you don't have a short in the wiring......
If you're shooting semi fine and then it spontaneously goes runs-away in full auto...then your cut-off lever isn't actuating/catching the sliding portion of the switch block. A hard wack is probably dislodging it so it can re-engage. See that it is moving freely in the mechbox...with the mechbox done up you should be able to freely/easily move it with light finger tip pressure. Screw might be too tight, sector gear might be biding on it, etc...
If while it's shooting full auto...you release the trigger and it keeps firing full auto (ie. runaway gun) then the switch block is getting stuck forward, closing the circuit. Dirt/gunk/etc...
The safe/semi----full/semi thing is typically a selector plate/safety bar issue. First make sure your wiring isn't binding up the safety bar in the mechbox...then see if you don't need to file a bit off the edge where the safety bar contacts the selector plate. Basically what you're looking to do is to make the safety drop out of position sooner.
If you really get stuck, come by this weekend...I'm working on stuff around the house.
