"Intellect 9.6V 1600mAh Ni-MH Battery (Mini Type)" will fit, it is just really hard to get it to fit.

If you can't get it to work, move down one cell to an 8.4v mini battery (5 cells versus 6 for the 9.6v).

Otherwise, you can use a lipo battery.
