The slight click sound could either be from the motor trying to run backwards (good thing the anti-reversal latch is there) if your polarities are reversed.
Or like everybody else is saying, your battery is too weak and the click is the motor trying in vain to turn over and failing. A easy test is to get a large battery and try that.
