JG Drop-In v2 Mechbox Opinions
 

I have a stock TM SR-16 and I am looking at getting a bit more FPS out of it (better than the stock 280 FPS). I was looking at the Jing Gong drop-In v2 mechbox (new 2008+ black one with metal bushings). I am getting differing opinions on this mechbox and I would like to know of peoples experience with it or am I better off upgrading the existing stock TM mechbox.

I got one...the Piston was split in Two before the gun was ever fired...Swapped out the piston and spring as the one that came in it looked like it should have been attatched to a tank suspension system. I also replaced the anti reversal latch...other than that it seems good to go.

What FPS are you aiming for?

If you're looking around the 350 range, all you really need to change is the bushings and spring.. any more than that and I'd be tempted to swap the spring guide too.

I am just looking to get about 350...what's the best bang for the buck so to speak in spring and bushings? I saw that Frank at VA was selling the systems springs for about $13.

Stick with your stock TM mechbox.

Swap the plastic bushings with Modify metal bushings (6mm) and reshim.
Swap the plastic spring guide with a Modify metal bearing spring guide

You'll probably hit somewhere in 310-330fps range there. Your rifle will perform really well and there'll be little wear and tear on it. You'll be safely under 350fps so there'll be no worries of chrony'ing too hot for a 350fps MAX limit game.

If you need to try and get a bit more, consider either swapping the stock spring to a Modify S90 and/or swapping in a 6.03mm tightbore. But you stand a good chance of breaking 350fps if you do both....or if you're lucky, you'll end up right in the mid 340's fps.

Make sure to get "Modify 6mm bushing for JG ver.2".

I have one in my M4 and i don't have any problem with it.... but i shoot like 200 round throw it so i'm not a good example.

That mechbox is the same one that comes in most of JG's HK416s and is pretty good. If you downgrade the spring to something more realistic than an M130, it should be perfectly fine and durable. However, I didn't replace the spring and the shell ended upg cracking on me, despite it being a reinforced shell. I have another one of these in my custom C8 downgraded to an MS110SP spring and it's shooting well and no trouble as of yet, although only put about 1000 rounds through it in testing and plinking so far.

However, I'll agree with M102404. Install metal bushings, and bearing spring guide and possibly an M90 spring and a tightbore and you'll be close to 350 fps and well within tolerance limits for a stock TM shell. Velocities over 350 fps (from the mechbox alone, not counting a tightbore) tend to be quite hard on a TM shell and will shorten its lifespan significantly. It will be much cheaper to go this route and will give you the results you're looking for.

On a side note about these JG mechboxes - those motors ROCK. They have an assload of torque and good speed. IMO, they perform a lot better than TM or CA stock motors.

So where would be the cheapest/best place to get the modify parts? What length of tightbore would I need and is the barrel hard to change?

ok...here come some noob questions:

I don't know what size barrel or model to get (best bang for buck). I see a few different sites that have charts, but a few list the TM SR-16 inner barrel length as 363mm and others list it as 407mm :banghead:

There are way too many bushings, spring guides and springs out there...I just don't what to get.

It just sounds easier to get the drop in JG mechbox but I am seeing various posts on the good and the bad of this option.

Bushings: I haven't really seen any "Bad" bushings.
Spring guides: Same deal.
Spring: Avoid PDI like the plague, any of the other major brands are pretty decent.

Yup I would stick with the stock TM mechbox. I've worked on a friend's JG and his stock piston has more wear in the 3,000 rounds he's shot then my CA mechbox has in it's stock piston. And i've fired around 50,000 throught it. So i'd either stick with your TM or save up for a CA or Systema.

Anyway if you buy a JG gearbox you will need to open it and change the spring (m130 is too much...) so i think the best is to stick with ur tm gearbox
