¤ DD Lite. Special tool for barrel nut? ¤

I have a DD 9.0 rail for my Guarder New Gen C8 body. I can hand tighten the barrel nut 2 threads, then it just stops.

Do I need the actual DD wrench for the barrel nut, or can I use the Guarder Armourer's wrench I have coming?

Thanks for reading ....................... dragwindsor

Neither. You have a rail with Imperial threads (if it's the real one) and you're installing it on a body with metric threads. You can try a wrench, but I promise you'll regret it.

Re-work your receiver threads, or get another rail. Those are your only options.

Would he require the thread tool madbull made?

I have the replica. Can I use the Madbull Thread Modifier?

Well, seeing how Madbull's rails are metric, I would think it would be to convert a receiver with Imperial threading to metric for their rails.

Maybe an owner of one will chime in here. I'v only have receivers with Imperial threading, so I just buy real rails.I have used a metric thread file to rework those receivers for airsoft rails in the past.

How would I change from M to SAE with a thread file? Aren't those for repair, not conversion?

The threads are really close. Basically you end up filing off a bit to alot of paint, and making the threads less rigid in dimension from SAE to metric. They end up being a mixture of both, and you can use either type of rail on the receiver.

Here's a PTW receiver done this way. You can see how much material was actually removed (very little), and the file used to do the job. Took about 20 minutes.

What pitch do I need? Should I use some Loctite after?

Thanks

mcguyver October 2nd, 2008 00:12

No Loc-tite. You don't need it and don't want to mess around trying to get it off later.

dragwindsor October 2nd, 2008 00:24

Damn. I see the pic. That's it? So you're pretty much just removing some thread angle while keeping the same pitch. Sw33t. Thanks Mcguyver.

Project [BK]C-8aX is saved.

mcguyver October 2nd, 2008 18:37

That's pretty much it, but you may need to do it in reverse from mine. If you have or know someone with thread guages, then you'll know which is the Imperial and which is metric, and go from there.

The barrel nut is probably propietary to the Daniel Defense rail, eh? Would there be a substitute nut available?

mcguyver October 2nd, 2008 19:34

Not that I'm aware of, except for DD themselves.

dragwindsor October 2nd, 2008 19:45

I'll try the thread file.
