Shemaghs
We all see them and you can find them for sale everywhere. They've become kinda of a fashion thing now. Big in the UK and this summer I've noticed its starting to take off here in Halifax NS, ow I've been wearing mine around town a lot last year and kinda stray from wearing it now because there becoming big.
Now the real reason why I started this thread, there are so many people selling these which ones are authentic? I originally got my Shemagh from Seals Action Gear a few years ago and its still doing fine, but recently I felt the need to buy another one, not necessarily a OD or Tan one but a traditional red and white one. Now heres the thing where can I buy one that I know is authentic and properly made. Also does anyone have info on the differences between a Shemagh and a Keffiyeh, and if there are any more Arab or Middle Eastern scarfs I don't know about. I want to be informed so I know. |
I bought one last fall but haven't worn it yet, more so that I'm not used to it as it's bulkier than I normally wear around my neck or head, nor do I know cool ways to tie it on aside form the headwear instructions. Want to wear mine, but really haven't found much of a use for it during game play though.
Nutshell, haven't answered any of your questions, but added more questions to your thread. Hope you don't mind. |
theres another thread on here on wearing them, but yeah I need to know some more stuff.

Oh god, I now see those skate borders wearing colours ones with those weavy black designs on them with those little strings hanging off the sides..
I thought to myself, wow those look really familiar. |
I just tried to do some of my own research on the shemagh, from what I read a shemagh is a Keffiyeh just with a different pattern. Also that its only called a Shemagh because of the British soldiers from ww2 but the style of shemagh we know is called a shmagh and thats not a typo.
Yea so heres a Keffiyeh: http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thu...h_keffiyeh.jpg Notice the pattern, I believe this is a more traditional pattern. |
Well I also found a new one its like a shemagh/Keffiyeh but its from Jordan and is called yashmagh. It looks like the real difference between all these is that the design/pattern is different. It also seems like there so much confousetion on these its hard to find true info or reliable info that is. Also I would never know if i'm buying the real deal unless its from a stand in the middle east.

ok once again I found a little more info, well more names. The keffiyeh is also known as a shmagh, shemagh or yashmag, a ghutra or a hatta.

shemagh became so popular, i've seen atleast 15 people wearin it today at my school. I to had been lookin for this baby, probably goin to drive down at seals action gear tommorow to get a tan and OD

The one I have is made in pakistan so it's "Authentic" in so much that it's from one of the authentic countries that make it. A&A Surplus.
I wear it when biking on windy days, keeps that wind and dust out of my face. I also wear it to keep warm and out of the cold winter air. Other than that, it remains unworn. It came in handy a couple weeks ago when it was retardedly cold out. |
