of PTW's and third party batteries
 

Just a note to all the PTW owners out there. I bought some third party batteries that use the same cells as official SystemA packs and they are crap. SystemA uses AA quality Sanyo cells, most companies get whatever mediocre quality Sanyo sells them. My official SystemA 9.6V 1600mAh packs take a charge of nearly 2000mAh and give instant trigger response, my third party packs that claim to be the same only take a charge of 1400-1500mAh and I'm guessing they can't provide the same amperage to the motor as there is a trigger lag like in a normal AEG instead of the instant trigger response that you're supposed to have with a PTW.

I don't have an official 12V pack but my third party one when running on my M130 cylinder gives a delayed trigger response, sometimes a two round burst when on semi, and only takes a charge of 1100mAh when the cells are supposed to be rated for 1300mAh. When using a SystemA 9.6V pack I don't run into any of these problems and the gun runs exactly as its supposed to.

So the SystemA batteries are more expensive than third party batteries but it isn't just markup, there is a massive difference in quality. I was reluctant to believe this until I did this side by side comparison. Moral of the story, get official SystemA batteries for your official SystemA PTW.

Another note is at my last game I saw someone with a PTW and a 9.6V ????mAh battery strapped so the side with tape. This would provide the necessary amperage as if its a NiMh battery it will be far better than even official SystemA batteries in that regard, but it doesn't fit in the crane stock. The third party batteries I was using where the same 4/5 and 1/2 SubC cells that SystemA uses that fits in the crane stock.

I have never understood the reason of trying to save $50 on a battery when someone already spent $2000+ on the gun. I always figured there was a reason Systema sells them as they do.

Perhaps, but the only one that is likely to fit another AEG would be the 9.6v 2400mah battery meant for full-stock M16s.

I've been telling people this for the last 6 months at least, and a few have listened. Systema doesn't recommend anything other than NiCads, likely due the ability of NiCads to deliver the most current in the shortest time when compared to other chemistries. And this is what's required in starting motors when under load.

What are the markings on the Systema Sanyo and regular Sanyo cells? Perhaps by looking at the packaging closely you can get batch information which could allow you to construct a higher quality battery.

How many 3rd party battery packs did you test out?

There are no markings that are readily visible to determine lot or batch information. Systema says they have a good relationship with Sanyo and buy batteries from the "AA" bin, claiming them to be practically matched cells. Whether this is the actually the case or not, I can't say. But I do know that they perfrom very well, and many guys with custom batteries do run into performance problems as well as electronics failures.

Not to say that a gun has never failed using Systema's batteries, but I seem to hear about alot of failures when guys use batteries from their other AEG, or get them made by someone.

Guys in Europe have bought the exact same cells from Sanyo that Systema uses, and they ended up costing upwards of 8 dollars per cell. Nowhere near worth it, considering you have to assemble it now, tab the cells, solder, install your pigtail and hope it all holds up. And you give up the steel rods that support the cells, meaning you have to grab the wiring and pull out the battery.

How about just give up on trying to make them and just buy them. Anyone who balks at paying $120 for 1 battery when they spent $3000 on gun and accessories should stick to Marui and save their money. Systema isn't for the weak-walleted or those seeking economy.

You're right that it doesn't make any sense to skimp on the battery after spending so much on the gun itself. I personally don't have a PTW (not a M4 fan) but I'm interested in seeing why the Systema batteries are so much better than others. I guess with no batch numbers though the only thing we can really do is take Systema's word for it that it gets "special" cells which are of higher quality.

That was me - my battery had not arrived yet so I grabbed my AK74 battery (9.6v 3300mah) and hockey taped it on, worked great.

However now my third party ptw batterypack from onlybatterypacks.com has arrived and I've had no problems.

And it fit in my PTW stock fine. Also, it's NiMh and rated @ 2000mah. It charges right up to 2050ish and there is no trigger lag time. I'm curious where you purchased your pack from?
