Making molle

http://www.imsplus.com/images/LBV_E_front.JPG

I have one of these things with the all the pockets cut off and spray painted black. (don't ask)

Anyway, I thought about giving it a new lease on life by installing molle on the front of it. I have a few questions first though? Should I put the molle on straight, or canted like the pouches were originally? I would like to get the maximum mollage because my primary is 7.62x39 and the pouches for that are like 4x6. Also where the hell can I get webbing for that size in Toronto? I don't want to order online for something that isn't going to require more than 10 feet for it. What about black condura? where can I find that in Toronto to I've checked several fabric stores in the fashion district and when I ask nylon they show me stockings?!

I also need to learn how to use a sewing machine.

cheers. (I will update the thread if I make any progress)

Don't know the TO area at all, but in Calgary, some outdoor gear shops sell the 1" wide nylon webbing. Surely you have some similar stores there.

Yea a camping outfitting store should have 1" webbing. Otherwise order it from www.diytactical.com.

that website is an excellent resource. Should be stickied

You should be able to get various colours of 1" webbing from your local Canadian Tire for a decent price.

Mountain Equipment Co-Op carries 1" webbing in various colours.

too bad I don't have a damn membership. (don't want to pay 5 dollars to buy something that costs 5 dollars :P )

They don't have OD.

For the amounts you need, DIY is your best bet. Other things to consider are the machine you're using and the thread. Most machines can't handle heavy thread, and most light threads can't support the wieght of the MOLLE attachments.

You need 17337 OD webbing in 1" and 68 weight nylon thread.

If the pockets are already off the rig, I can probably whip some MOLLE onto in in a couple of hours. I'll do the job for $40 time and materials included. I don't stock black tho, so it'd be OD. If you're throwing pouches on it that shouldnt matter.

I don't do a lot of this work these days, but when I see someone willing to go to this length I feel obliged to offer. If you want references, talk to Primus. I did some work for him recently.

It's really crappy webbing, go 100% for what Kokanee suggested, MEC (pay the $5, there is LOTS of stuff there yo ucan buy that you can use for airsoft, or for camping overnight before a game, etc. Besides, the membership is for life!), their webbing is stiffer and much tougher, and the ends clean up nicer with a lighter to seal than the crappy stuff from CT. Is kinda like the difference between a nice white rope vs. yellow cheap shit.

It's a $5 for life membership- and it's quite the neat store, but I digress.
