Smoke grenades. *DYI*

I was browsin' the nets, and I came across this.

I decided to post it here. It seems pretty simple to make.

You may not use Smoke G's in a regular airsoft match, but its good for certain scenarios.

Using and not using smoke grenades is up to the organizers.

Actually field owners mostly

If you are using smoke or flares normally designed as SOS devices then you can get into serious legal trouble. On the same not if you set off smoke and someone calls it in as a forest fire and forest fire fighters attend, the person who set off the smoke has to pay for the fire fighters. I will tell you this, my neighbor lit some brush on fire, it got away. For a day's worth of fire fighters and two helicopters with buckets set him back $100,000.

Thus why most field owners won't allow it when you also throw in the chance of forest fire, burns, smoke inhilation, etc.

Yeah it was the same video. And yeah, making your own pyrotechnic devices is totally illegal. in Canada and the states. Just shell out for actual smoke grenades.

The only time some folks will learn is when the bill for the fire trucks being called comes in.

Last time I heard about this locally, they were charging something like $500 to $1000 per truck. Now... when you think about it, fire departments never send just ONE truck to a fire call, a whole lot of them arrive. The costs add up fast. Not sure if there's a cost for the police and ambulances that tend to follow.

And then, to add insult to injury, the Bylaw or Provincial Parks folks arrive and charge you a lot more for risking the forest/environment. Fun times for all.

Crickey...sure pumps out the smoke tho don't it.

If you could weld up some containers that would take the heat (with assorted heat warnings on it), you could use am as a defensive smoke.

Plus having control over the color is a huge advantage.

I wonder how OD green smoke would work?

I used a smoke grenade once and wraped it in gun tape thinking it wouldnt make it so hot well it made it worst best bet is get some marine smoke grenades and pull the tab wait a few seconds and chuckit and your set. but check with feild owners first some just dont like them at all.

Ronan August 23rd, 2007 22:25

Just wondering something. So someone calls the fire department etc etc... its not your fault they are mistaking it for a fire... I would say 'mind your own business its happening on my field'... Sure they *mean* good but heh...

What about if you use orange/red/green/blue smoke? Same crap about authorities etc etc? Last i check smoke grenades are not only a SOS item. I think you can use it in what ever way you want (signal SOS, signal air strike, signal danger, w/e). Or am i wrong? Never actually used one :p

Drache August 24th, 2007 02:02

Most coloured smoke is used for SOS in civilian use, mainly marine SOS but it doesn't really matter, if someone calls it in, authorities will have to check it out.

Doesn't matter if it's on your own property even, if someone calls it in as a forest fire and authorities attend, you pay for it.

But this thread started as being told it's illegal to make home made smoke bombs or explosives.
