(Tokyo Mauri) FN P-90 TR

Hi all. Nice forum you guys have here. Stumbled upon it accidently while wandering around in Google (tends to be how people find most things, no?).

Myself and my friends have been fans of airsoft for over a year now, but economic considerations (we're fuckin broke) haven't allowed us to get anything decent till recently. But that's given us a lot of time to do research and wet our appetites.

For less than a month now, I've been the proud new owner of a TM P90tr from Redwolfairsoft.

I sprung for their high end, Level 4 Systema upgrade package, which includes as follows:

5. Battery Compartment Mods
6. Systema Directional Piston Head
7. Systema Bearing Rear Spring Guide
8. Fuse removal
9. Custom work to ensure smooth operation
10. Install Deep Fire Titanium Piston (Titanium Teeth)
This upgrade option represents a most powerful power upgrade for this gun.

It functions great. Unless I just use shit ammo, it never jams, and even then, its so powerful that it just doesn't care. It chews through the jam on the second or third cycle. My distance is only matched by some high end sniper rifles. I love it.

But I'm a greedy bastard, and I want more. What other upgrades do you fine patrons of this forum suggestion I do to "take it to the limit?" I was thinking about one of those high end solid teflon inner barrels to begin with.

Perhaps even a Laserex (LGL030) from dentrinity, just like the real ones have.

Oh yeah, and trust me, I've seen just how extreme things can get...

But I want to stay... how can we say... "realistic" looking as possible. ;)

Real steel P90's dont have a laser like that stock, I'm a P90 fan and have never heard of that before except as an aftermarket addon.

As for taking it to the limit, I dislike the looks of guns with everything but the kitchen sink on em, I actually think they are ugly and ridiculous. I stick with plain and simple add ons, when I get my P90 (no idea when, may be more than a year) I'm getting a reddot sight, sling, and thats it. Currently my M733 has a reddot and front vert grip, and my CA MC51 when it comes in is getting a reddot sight and MAYBE a vert grip.

The thing I hate the most to see on a P90 are those damn M4/16 hicap mods, it just looks plain stupid, just get a damn CQBR if you want to use M4/16 hicaps. I love the look of the P90 in its externally stock form with nothing more than a reddot sight and maybe a taclight, nothing more.

You want to deck it out and stay reasonable? Its a TR so it has the tri rails so scope/sight on the top, tac light on one side, laser sight on the other, and either the two point slings that need the front over-the-barrel bit and the rear bit, or one of the slings that just goes around the body. I pretty much just described the P90's on Stargate SG-1 (I was a P90 fan well before they used them on that show) so if you want to see an example search for some screen shots from one of the mid to later seasons.

*EDIT*

Cronyx May 26th, 2006 16:34

Oh I watch that show all the time. In fact, true story... cosplaying as Stargate is what got me into Airsoft. I needed a P90 replica for the costume, and wouldn't you know it, when I do my first search... the whole world of Airsoft opens up before me. Now it has gotten to the point where my Airsoft hobby and my Cosplay hobby are completely separate, and in fact, I never did get done finishing that Stargate costume. I've been too busy playing Airsoft! :D

I think you missunderstood what I meant though, but that could have been my fault.

I'm interested in what additionally I can do to the gun as far as performance upgrades. Not RIS options. Like, you know, teflon inner barrel and that kind of thing. Read above for what mine already came with it as part of the upgrade package for a list of what I already have had done to it; now I'm just looking for how I can really finish it up.

LUTNIT May 26th, 2006 16:53

Ah, icic

Well whats listed there is pretty much an upgraded everything in the mechbox, but it doesnt list a reinforced mechbox shell. Also I dont have experience with this but have been told that the Teflon barrels are no better than the other tightbores but cost more. I've heard many good things about the Systema brass 6.04mm barrels, brass is also self-lubricating from what I'm told.

Also I wouldnt want to run without a fuse but thats just me. I'd rather lose a $2 fuse than a $30 motor, the fuse is a hell of a lot easier to replace too.

Your last link didn't work though.

I haven't actually taken my gun apart yet (haven't had a need to), but I guess I should. Just to familiarize myself with how everything works in there if nothing else.

About the fuse thing, they said the batter didn't have enough juice, even close, to burn out that high end motor, and that the fuses were often more trouble than they were worth, burning out all the time when there was really no danger to the battery to begin with. I dunno, its just what I've heard.

I'll probably look into getting that brass barrel though, for sure.

The gun fires really long, and really hard, FPS 400+, but my ROF is kinda low. Any way to upgrade that without sacrificing power and speed, or is that just a static trade off that you have to pick one or the other, FPS or ROF?

Reinforced v6 gearboxes do not exist.

TN (Titanium-Nitride, not teflon) inner barrels are more self-lubricating than plain brass. The TN coating is longer wearing as well, as it is the same coating used on many drill bits for it's hard wearing and self lubricating properties. Also, plain brass has a tendency to pick up oxidation and if left sitting for long enough unprotected, it will get a rough oxidized surface until it's cleaned (which can be a pain if it gets to that point.)

But for the price you pay, Systema 6.04mm inner barrels will do the job fine. Just have to remember to keep them clean and oiled well.
If you have the money, I'd recommend the Prometheus 6.03mm electro-plated inner barrels. But once you move to tightbore inner barrels, you CAN NOT use poor quality ammunition anymore or you could risk tearing your gearbox apart.

Eagle Force Hummer 1300L motor. That thing will give your ROF and torque a massive boost. The general rule is that if you upgrade ROF, torque goes down, and vice versa.

But the motor itself is an item that can raise the middle-point of these two characteristics to a higher level.

Cronyx May 27th, 2006 02:45

For the motor, how do I know if I need the long or the short version on a P90?

And you're saying I CAN'T get a gearbox shell upgrade? I don't know if that's true. I could get one fabricated if it came to that.

And I guess I'll stick with a wider bore barrel too. I don't want to have to pay a fortune on ammo, I want to be able to use "what's handy" at the moment.

MadMax May 27th, 2006 04:31

I'm not sure an upgrade gearbox is necessary for the P90. Has anyone ever broken one?

If you get a rubber buttstock extender, you can fit in an even bigger battery. I've got twin 11.1v LiOn packs in my P90 which make it an absurd bb hose.

Other than a megabattery and an aftermarket motor, there isn't much more you can do in terms of performance. I'd like to see some grouping tests before diving into tightbore barrels first.

If you go for ultra ROF and you still have cash burning a hole in your pocket, get a TM tracer silencer and some glow beebs. Nothing like an upgrade in mental/visual effect if you can't go any further with performance.

LUTNIT May 27th, 2006 07:47

The difference between price for cheap ammo and good ammo is very small (at least here in Canada). That is assuming I know what good ammo is...

Guarder, KSC, AE, BBBastard, Matrix, Straight? Those all work? Just making sure as I'm getting a tightbore soon :)

Cronyx May 27th, 2006 19:14

MadMax, could you go into a little more detail about what you did to your P90? Battery configuration, motor, everything you did to make it a "bb hose" :D

I was just saying that an aftermarket one is not produced at this time. Of course, anybody with the resources can get one manufactured on a custom run. But I don't think it's worth it.
The v6 gearbox is really tough. I've performed tons of tests using my P90 gearbox, it's always had an aluminum piston head on it, I've pushed up to 470fps springs through it, used it in -20degree weather and the gearbox is still going strong with zero visible cracks or damage.

Cronyx May 30th, 2006 03:51

Thanks for the reply Illusion, but I think you misunderstood my question. :)

How do ***I*** know if I need the short or long version? I understand that YOU know, but that won't help me in the future if I can't get a hold of you. :)

ILLusion June 1st, 2006 16:35

You look at the motor. If the shaft is about 2.5 cm long (from the motor housing to the pinion gear), then it's a long motor. If the shaft is almost non-existent, then it's short.

But I'm telling you that the P90 is a long motor.

Cronyx June 2nd, 2006 07:32

Well yeah, I believed you, I just wanted to know how I could tell on my own for future gun projects. Thanks! :)
