How to remove glued screws.
 

Hey,

Just got some upgrades in the mail and I went to install them....and found that nearly every single screw on my tm vsr 10 is glued in place with this red residue.

How can I get these screws out?

That looks like possible red thread locker, which is ... yeah..



Did you try a heat gun?

A heat gun...how am I supposed to remove the screws that are on the plastic?

Why the hell would TM red loctite my entire gun? Its worthless now that I cant upgrade it.

You could try with a normal hair dryer first possibly?

I'd say a blow dryer is probably the safest bet.

I've been successful removing glued screws by running hot water over them OR if you're bold enough, use a soldering iron and use just the tip to heat it enough so that the glue loosens to remove them.

Works for epoxy may not work for loctite. I used this method on ABS plastic without much problem. Hopefully it doesn't melt the plastic but you could probably do your upgrades... ?

On my VSR all it took was some force, the thread locker they used wasn't very strong, but that's like 4 or 5 years ago.

Depending on the quality of the thread locker, gently attempting to turn the screw both ways repeatedly could weaken it. Make sure you have a perfectly sized screw driver as to not strip the screws.

Small shocks can also help loosen the thread locker, you can gently tap the screw with something not too heavy.

Only the trigger guard area has plastic. I can give you a replacement if you have to melt or damage it.
However I just used a long screw driver with a thick handle. Gave me enough torque to remove them. Mine had the pinkish red shit too.

That's not glue, its red thread locker. If care is taken, you can still remove the screws by hand, pretty easy if they're large phillips. Make sure you have the correct bits otherwise you will strip the screws and then you're done.

Red threadlocker is only a huge pain in the ass if the screws are shit like WE ones or if its on an AR barrel nut.

This. Use the correct bit with a solid amount of torque and it may come loose. Just make sure you don't bend or crack the gun. If that doesn't work, touch the tip of a soldering iron to the screw head for a few seconds. It shouldn't take much, so do it in ten second intervals if it doesn't release the first time. If it is indeed lock-tighted beyond strength release, then heat is your only friend.

I haven't ever had issues removing screws on TM guns with that thread locker.

Just.....unscrew them.

That's not red loctite, it's a form of lightweight red GLUE. It's light to break and has no creep strength.
Get the PROPER size phillips screw driver, push down really hard on the screw head, and just give it a quick hard turn to break it loose.

If it were red loctite; 1) you'd shear the head of the bolt right off before ever getting those threads to move, 2) there would be significant creep resistance if you did manage to break the bond, and 3) there would be dozens of threads asking about people stripping screws on marui VSR's lol
Those screws will strip, since they're non-ferrous, but only in tightening. So don't tighten them like a gorilla and you won't have any issues.

Come on guys. Red loctite? On a marui? Systema doesn't even use loctite.

Ive managed to get all the screws off using force and the PROPER sized screwdriver (had to go buy one >.>) ...EXCEPT the bloody barrel screw.

If it is indeed just red glue, then this barrel screw was put in by the hulk. Will take it with me to a friends place later, he has a soldering iron.

I could see it. Make it so you can't disassemble it for power upgrades. Their vsr cylinders are pinned and crimped...

But probably just a glue, or wicking thread compound to lightly hold

According to the loctite page, it can be removed with heat, so regardless of if it's glue or not, don't give up just yet!!
