Cellphone gun mount

So I was at UA about a week ago and there was a fellow with an interesting setup on his rifle. It was a scope that looked like any old red dot sight, but it was being displayed on what looked like a small cellphone device and it showed a scope feed and had options for magnification and sighting.

I think I found the app https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...eliscope&hl=en

But does anyone know of a rail adapter to hold a cellphone that isn't 100+ dollars? Id like to goof around with it but I need to figure out how to mount a cellphone to a gun rail first...

A quick google search yields multiple results:

Those are all fine and dandy, but I was asking for a cellphone gun mount to use the app linked. I really don't feel like paying over a hundred dollars to have my cellphone connected to my gun. I am not looking for scope mounts or anything of that nature, just a mount to hold a cellphone on a gun.

Google input "cellphone rifle rail mount"

http://www.isightsmount.com/#mounts_id

$40 and you have a simple mount for iPhone or Galaxy devices.

Just curious, what possible reason could exist that one would require or even want a cellphone mounted to a gun?

Kind of like mounting a cordless drill to shotgun. I am sure it might appeal to some, but is in essence a worthless waste of time and money.

It's for those that want to employ aps that calculate elevation and windage for long distance shooting. There's also those that try to use their phone as a gun cam.

This is all very impractical really; but if that's how he wants to waste he funds have at her.

People often forget how violent recoil really is. They just see it as the slap in the shoulder that we absorb and control. But if you watch high speed camera capture you see that every part of a rifle is in an almost fluid motion for a fraction of a second. Cellphones are extremely sensitive devices that do not have the shock resistance most tend to believe.

Not to mention that if you ever have to ditch your rifle for what ever reason ((no ammo, combat injury, etc)), you're ditching a comms device as well. Better off to just get one of those arm bands that holds the thing to your forearm allowing you to see the screen and operate it with ease of staying in the fight.

For airsoft it is even less practical. For one, none of the apps will ever apply enough information for the range BB's can engage at. Every rifle will be so different you end up having to build your own data charts. On top of this, the screen is now exposed to BB strikes which WILL cause damage to the screens. Real world if a bullet went through it, you're not likely to be in a position to care; as you're either dead with the round continuing through the phone to you OR you're just damned happy that's ALL that was hit.

I kind of like the Jugernaut case though; with the molle adapter. Folds the screen up against your rig leaving only the hardened shell exposed. But $300 for the basic model is a touch steep. Considering that you could buy another phone with that. AND it's not as though such a case will continue to be useful for all later models of Galaxy or iPhone releases.

Was an interesting concept but never really had support.

Its not really for airsoft gaming. Its mostly for dicking around. I have an app that looks interesting, and I have some plans to build a fold out rig, just needed a case or mount to try something. For 40 bucks, and some dicking around to maybe get some interesting scene photos....

But yes, I would NOT go to an actual game with this. Having to buy another rogers phone......no thanks.

I agree, interesting concept for sure, but without wifi how well would it update?

Good for them for raising almost $6,000 but they were seriously short of $50k.

It'd have to be via 3G/LTE, and that'd suck bad for most of us.
I've 6Gigs of data and I'd be reluctant use that sight.
On another note, just for the fun of it, I could see a mount that supports OtterBox or some other uber-protective case as being useful.
No, not entirely practical, but maybe fun.

I could see that mount being usefull for larger games and you had the field map with objectives and landmarks cached on your phone. I would consider using it for that purpose.

daishi May 4th, 2014 14:37

Yes, an otter box gun mount, that would be great. To bad all that I have seen are concepts and no retail versions.

Wilkie May 4th, 2014 15:43

Surprised a cellphone could handle the recoil

siggypoo May 5th, 2014 11:05

Cellphone gun mount

Most can handle the G's of multiple drops from a pocket; why not recoil? And for Airsoft, that recoil would be rather light.
I got curious and built a concept holder.
Kinda neat.

This looks like it could be interesting on a large field.
