Gearbox upgrade/reinforcement

So a while ago i upgraded my dboys version 2 gearbox spring to a Gaurder SP110, the rest of the gearbox is stock and its shooting 431fps.

What would i need to need to upgrade to get this work safely, i was also hoping to upgrade it to around or over 600fps

coach September 18th, 2011 19:17

Just about everything. Box included!

ThunderCactus September 18th, 2011 19:25

Coach is right on the money
If you're looking for a 600fps platform, I'd start off by buying a G&P rifle, personally.
But if you want it to operate RELIABLY at 600fps, you're looking at a $500+ kit.
That's mechbox, motor, and full high quality internals.
This is just my personal opinion, but if you're going to sink that much upgrade money into an AEG, you might as well start with a solid base.

It's a lot of money, but still cheaper than a PTW supermax lol

lol ok how bout to keep it shooting 430fps

upgrade piston, gears, bushings, cylinder head, cylinder, piston head, and motor?

ThunderCactus September 18th, 2011 20:00

stock cylinder should be fine, you don't have to touch the motor till it starts giving you problems, and as long as you get an ARS sorbo cylinder head you shouldn't have to worry about the mechbox shell breaking
prometheus double torque gears, w/e size of bushings you need, ARS cyl head, ARS piston head, and if you really want a motor I'd say G&P M140 or M160
And you'll need to remove the 2nd tooth on the piston for use with the ARS cyl head.
You'll also want to upgrade your hop rubber if you haven't already. For $15, it's the single best upgrade you can do for increased range and accuracy!

I'd probably be looking at a reinforced and CNC'ed gearbox shell to make sure it doesn't crack first.... I think I saw one before but I don't remember who made it. Probably the likes of Prime, Zeke, Prowin, or such. Might as well get that "V2 shock absorber" as well for a bit of extra insurance.

Then I would go with triple torque gears and an ultra torque motor to pull a spring like that back.

For something shooting that hot I'd also look at a bore up kit and make sure you get as close to perfect airseal as possible.

It can definitely be done but what kind of money are you willing to spend on it?

PS: If you field this don't forget about MED's and make sure you lock it to single fire (maybe with a MOSFET?). As well make sure everyone knows you're fielding such a hot gun and trust you to do so. If it's just a proof of concept gun then whatever.

awesome thanks ThunderCactus

quick side note, what would be the easiest way to get a stock TM m733 to 350-380

HKGhost September 18th, 2011 20:13

Spring change. A M100 should do the trick.

thanks Ghost

i will was actually looking at getting a cnc box anyways the G&P 8mm box

whats the "v2 shock absorber"?

ThunderCactus September 18th, 2011 20:38

G&P mechboxes aren't CNC, but they are really tough.
I think he means sorbo pads for shock absorbers?
And if you want a stock marui to shoot 380, you're going to need a sorbo pad for sure, new bushings, and probably a new gearset as well. But the piston can handle it for sure.
You're better off at 350 than 380 with a stock marui, keep in mind they weren't designed to go past 320fps.

I'm leaning more towards the STS. In the event the box does crack, it'd still shoot all day long

logoris September 18th, 2011 21:00

that would work too, for a full cylinder does increasing the inner barrel length also increase the the fps

logoris September 18th, 2011 21:05

ok need help how do i release spring tension in version 2 dboys gear box i have full battery piston is all the way back but it wont fire

HKGhost September 18th, 2011 21:23

A really strong gearbox shell is Modify's Torus shell. I had 500FPS+ setup run for 20,000+ rounds without a problem. If paired with the right parts, you can get really high fps without exploding the entire thing. It will just cost you $500+ to get it.
