RS Type 97b downgrading

So, I purchased a Type97b (god I love the feel of this gun) and I realised that it is said to shoot at about 430fps ... that's a bit too high, especialy for indoor gaming...

Fellows owner of this rifle, did you know if this fps is an exageration or it really shoot that hot ... and if it shoot as said, wich spring will be better to bring it as much closer as possible to 390-400 fps (outdoor) and at 340-350fps (indoor)... with .20, of course. ?

If I remember correctly, the RS guns use some APS-2 spring instead of AEG springs...

Something 100SP should give you about 400 fps in there.

Ask Silvertorn, he had one and worked the inners.

That's not true at all, RS stuff uses 100% standard AEG springs. The guns tend to get higher compression than what springs are rated for, so aim for a spring that shoots 15 to 20 FPS lower than what you'd like.

Dunno, that's what I hear about that specific one. I worked on an AK and it took a normal spring. But the 97 apparently was different (that's what I remembered from first experience with the gun)

Nope -- you sir are entirely wrong on that one.

The T97's take a standard spring... and infact have a quick spring change feature built into the gearbox.

I've owned and operated on every realsword gun released to date :)

Well, that'a a start for sure !

Here on ASC we have a nice spring chart : http://www.airsoftcanada.com/SpringChart.php ... is it still reliable ?

By looking at it, I saw some similarities ... like the KA M110 and Systema M110 or the KM 120M and the Systema 120M having the same approx. velocity ... simple coincidence or puting a ''M'' with a number is a standardised code ?

Like...is the Modify S110 or the Mad Bull M110 similar to the Systema, KA or wathever M110 spring (thus shooting at around 389FPS) ?

Amos July 25th, 2011 14:46

M infront tends to stand for "meters per second"

M110 springs tend to shoot around 360ish while modify uses a different rating system ("S").. in this case I have no idea what their measurement is based off of, but I know their recorded ratings are VERY consistant (110 in modify in a standard AEG will give you close to 390, in a Realsword it may peak over 400)

Forgot I had a T97 sitting in the other room;

See, standard AEG, and it has been since their release (My old T97B was #0001##)

Tertion July 25th, 2011 17:08

So a 110 should do the job ?

You say that RS products tend to get a highter compression... is that because of a tighter air seal ?

Silverthorn July 25th, 2011 17:37

With my 97B I had to use an M85 spring to get it to shoot below 350 fps.

That thing is so efficient that the spring I use outside (shooting at 380-385 fps) is a spring that used to shoot at 300 fps in a regular AEG (my old MP5K).

Morale of the story : get much weaker springs that you should normally and it will do the trick.

Lol Silverthorn ... i just found out that you asked the exact same question one year ago : http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=100034

(still can't figure out why chromium is more effective at finding what I need here that the ASC search engine itself (but well, any SQL database engine seem to be like that so...))

If only I had a chrony... I could ... maybe... try the stock spring of my Tar-21, that make it shoot like 260-280ish (and that make me sad...)

Silverthorn, did you know what is the M rating or the stock spring you use now in your 97B to make it shoot 380-385 ?

No. It was the stock spring off my Galaxy MP5K and it would only shoot 300 fps in that gun. I assume that springs that shoot around 300 fps in normal AEG would get that result in a 97B.

Well, thanks everyone for you help !

You know what ? I think I'm just gonna buy an M90, M100 ans M110 and try them all, just to be sure.

Just so you know, M90 for me was still above 350 fps. That's why I use a M85. Might be different for your gun.
