SRC Gen III?
 

Hey guys,

Before I order a SRC Gen III M4 I have a few questions. I have heard mixed reviews about SRC quality, but I couldn't quite find any definitive answers on the Gen III series. How's the quality?

One of the big attractions is the full metal body, which I couldn't seem to find on G&G alternatives, but how does the overall quality compare to G&G or other offers?

Also, on 007airsoft the velocity listed is far too high for indoor use. Is there any way to adjust this? Or would I need to buy another spring?

Unfortunately, you can only get a hand full of reviews or info on the SRC M4, other than what 007airsoft provides. Trust me, I have searched for days and days.

In terms of velocity, yes you would need to downgrade the spring.

My choices come down to SRC M4 R.I.S and ICS M4 S.I.R... I'm am more inclined to go with SRC for a first AEG because it is a little more affordable plus for $50 more, Ken will throw in a battery and charger. The gun is also metal so that is a big plus.

Yeah, the price is definitely good, any idea on the shipping time to Toronto? I couldn't find any info on his site.

Never mind, found that shipping is 3-4 days, which is really surprising.

I would do some more research. I have the 2010 ICS M4 with M&P trades, and this thing is amazing right out of the box. I believe it shoots around 340 FPS stock. But put in a Tightbore inner barrel and it jumps to like 370 FPS or something crazy.

Well I kind of have to cheap out, and TBH, a $590 dollar gun doesn't seem cheap, at least to a student lol.

Where did you pick yours up? I've been trying to find someone to get me verified but no reply as of now, so no classifieds :(

the one your talking sounds like a gen III Pro, the standard Gen III, i believe has the tinted plastic lower. I have one of those (tinted lower) ones, don't mind it at all. i think i overpaid for mine, but stuck with it now. it seems to be pretty sturdy, one issue is that all the models have a full seal cylinder, so a standard length M4 will wear quicker due to the piston smacking into the cylinder head with out a bb.

if i could do it again i would probably buy a ICS. i like the idea of a quick change upper mechbox. allows you to change the spring nice and quick for different fields, or change the entire upper mech box and front end to go from M4 to M16 length.

but as i said, nothing wrong with my SRC, i changed the inner barrel to an m16 length, with a silencer, and the hop up rubber and nozzle, and it seams to work pretty nicely, i haven't gamed it yet since the mod.

I did not cheap out. I have not bought anything yet. However, I guess brands speak louder than anything else in airsoft. Like everything else I guess. Like I said I have done tons of research and the SRC that ken has has more FPS stock than ICS... However, I did learn by reading these boards that FPS is not the most important thing

This is correct. It is more important to get a quality gun, with easy to find parts, which comes externally solid, than to buy a gun which has a high FPS.

SRC is TM compatible.
ICS is not, but has a large parts market... but at a price

changing a spring is not hard to do on a standard mechbox. but i wouldn't want to do it every time i play. if you have a couple of fields with the same gun rules no need for quick change springs.

my gun with a S90 spring and a bad air nozzle (looked like the previous owner tried to bore a bigger hole in it with a pencil) shot at around 300fps, and i still used it fine in outdoor games.

slower guns make you work for your kills

Yeah, sorry I didn't even realize the difference, I was talking about the pro version. Does anyone have any links to some ICS guns in Canada?

The SRC looks pretty good, I'm not too worried about the spring issue, as I'll probably stick mainly to outdoor.

Actually Bareass TM parts can be compatible. I read it somewhere, however I don't have first hand experience.

@ Mak11 Brands do speak loud because a brand displays they're quality and they become known for it. FPS is not everything, I was just giving a benchmark.

@BallsofSteel I didn't even know that the price of the SRC is $590. Maybe that's just me, but that seems kinda steep for that.. If I were you, with that money maybe $100 more I would get a Classic Army, but that's just me.

Like I said, do some more research on other guns before setting your mind on SRC. I would choose ICS over SRC anyday.

It's 510 for an M4 with an RIS, I was just adding in the cost of the battery and mag, and if I went barebones it would only be 450 for a standard M4.

Right now I'm just going by the suppliers I know, and none that I know of carry ICS or CLassic Army guns apart from 007airsoft, but the ones they sell are "not for citizens".

Get age verified, and you can view the retailer section on the forums. There you will find pretty much anything you could possibly need and for decent prices.

i was giving you the example of the standard Gen III, because i own one. i've never used or seen the pro, but i'm pretty happy with mine. the plastic body doesn't feel too wimpy and it has good internals. i changed the nozzle and now have 100% seal. like i said it has a full seal cylinder in it stock, which is not right and can cause breakage, but didn't for me, and now i have a longer barrel.

SRC is making a good name for themselves. and is making a good gun.

but honestly i would look used. at the price that your saying a new SRC is going for, you can get just about any gun in stock or slightly upgraded condition.

try and get av'd. i bought mine before i was av'ed, and it was a big mistake. I think the seller took advantage of my noobness. while it is a good gun, i could of had better, and in better condition for the same price.
