Home Made Silencers

All over Youtube there are videos of people (not just the "Airsoft Wars" kiddies) who are claiming that you can make a quick but very effective silencer to help dampen the pop of the air comming out of the barrell. Can anyone confirm this?

TokyoSeven October 16th, 2010 14:34

Yes, I can confirm that those videos exist on youtube.

Sorry, I mean, Can anyone confirm that they work at all? Im not talking about completely silencing the sound, I just mean dampening it. My ICS M4 is freakin loud.

Sorbo pads, correct motor height, and helical gears will all help to reduce the noise from the mechbox. As for the report it's actually not that loud to be completely honest and the mechbox noise I would say accounts for probably 80% of the noise.

How can I make sure I have the correct motor height?

Honestly, 20$ from airsoftparts.ca those silencers work quite well ofc you have to calculate shipping+taxes but yeah very in-expensive.

Yeah pretty much the only way to set the "perfect" motor height is to listen to it. It's fine tuning basically. If your gun can fire then it's set "about right", enough that the motor can spin and contact the gears and all that.

Basically tune it so it's the least noisy. It won't be perfectly quiet but will instead be less noisy. When you do this you'll want to do about quarter turns and also remember how it sounded the last time it shot so if it gets noisier again then you can turn it back (noise can come from it being too high or too low).

Not just any Sorbo pads though... Only the highest quality in Kevin Sorbo pads are required to reduce mech box volume.....

don't take this the wrong way but you sure ask a lot of questions. I don't know how long you've been in the sport but I think you need to read more and search for some of your questions so you can come to your own conclusion. Now for something you saw on youtube, there is no way for us to know if it works or not. If it's just made up of paper tubes with foam, build it and you tell us if it works. Most of us just buy a silencer and be done with it. and FYI, I've made those youtube silencer before and they sorta work but looks like shit.
