Airsoft shotgun scratchbuild : Stage one. (Pickachurs)

Alright, Been kinda slow with this one (Been in an out of the hospital a lot for the past week.) but i've finally started to get down to business with it.

The project is pretty simple. Make a break barrel, single shot airsoft shotgun that uses the Madbull shot shells. Right now i'm using a TM shell to work around until the madbull shells come in on wednesday.

And so far, i've got a good deal done in the past few hours.

(Put in a cut to help get the shell out if needed)

The gun will actually break to the right, rather than down like a traditional break barrel shotgun. Doing this because it would be easier for me to do without some extensive mods or metal work (Trying to keep this to plastic and wood. The plastic will be painted up nice and pretty when the time comes.)

Hopefully this project will take off better than my VSR Battle rifle project did. This one is muuuch more easily acheivable, Lol.

Technical drawings coming soon.

Looks like some awesome craftsmanship so far!

Im going to stay tuned, and good luck!

Looking forward to seeing more progress.

Keep up the good work; airsoft break barrel shotgun are so awesome yet so rare...
I wonder why not use a goblin solo micro launcher as a base for your break barrel shotgun.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

The reason i'm not using a goblin is... Well, thats most of the work done. And i'm wanting to do something from scratch without spending too much cash. That and having something 100% unique is so much more appealing!

Perhaps If this project ends up being easy, I could make a bunch more... Hmm.

Either way. Getting the bandsaw and sander out tommorow.

Woohoo.

Gunny_McSmith June 21st, 2010 00:26

make it 2 barrels :P

Assault Pioneer June 21st, 2010 00:27

and make it over and under double barreled!

Strelok June 21st, 2010 00:42

Nah, too complicated. Its just a simple project for now. And the barrel is already made :p.

Maybe next time.

Greenwolf June 21st, 2010 01:10

what are you using for the barrel? I've had a similar project in mind for awhile (mind you, I was going to make it a sawed-off and use it as a sidearm :D)

*edit* and just to be sure, TM shot shells (and their clones) are the same diameter as Madbulls? I was afraid if I did it that way the bore would be too big or small for the Madbulls when I got them.

Strelok June 21st, 2010 01:15

After a bit of research, TM shells measure up to be 2 and 3/4 inches in length, and 21mm in diameter (Without the lip)

Thats about the same dimensions of an actual shotgun shell, Madbull shells apparently work in the real deal so i'm sure they will be the same. We'll soon find out on wednesday, or sooner. Depending how fast they get here.

As for the barrel? I was going through my garage earlier today, found a bunch of plastic pipes for some beanbag game my neice/nephew played with years back.

Ironically enough, perfect dimensions for both the shell and the barrel. Just took a bit of cutting on the inside of the larger peice and some plastic cement.

Greenwolf June 21st, 2010 01:25

cool... you think it's possible to find plumbing pipe or something equivilent about that size? I've no clue what to use for the barrel of my project, if I ever get around to it.

Let me know when the Madbulls arrive, I'm anxious to see how this works. I don't want to invest the money in Madbull shells and never use them if the project falls through.

Strelok June 21st, 2010 03:09

Just go to a home depot or something, and take a Verniers caliper (Or take one off of the shelf, lol) and measure the inside of the pipes you find, see if there is anything that fits D 21mm inside the pipe.

I have a feeling these shells will be here a bit sooner than schedualed... We'll see.

Rugger_can June 21st, 2010 03:22

Sounds cool, just be careful your design is not capable of discharging an actual shotgun shell (even if the barrel explodes). A homemade "pipe gun" which this would qualify as could be trotting the legal edge.

Sorry to be a buzz kill, I just wanted to warn you incase you neglected to consider this.

Styrak June 21st, 2010 03:45

Sorry to let you know, but TM shells are larger diameter than real steel shells.

By how much, I'm not sure, probably a few mm. I can measure when I go home in the morning if you want, let me know. Yay overnight shift!

Strelok June 21st, 2010 03:55

The gun wouldn't be capable of discharging a real shell at all. Even if I tried hard. The trigger only puts pressure on the valve on the back of the shell. There is no snapping/striking action

As for fitment? I have means to resize the chamber, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue, We'll see when the shells come in on wednesday. I would really appreciate the measurement, thankyou :D
