kjw m700 hop up stripped! help!!

the hop up adjuster on the scope mount rail is stripped out, could anyone help me with this?? im looking to find a replacement rail, and wondering if other rails would work or does it have to be kjw. or any other ideas??

I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

Is the issue your hopup, or your scope mount?

well the hop up adjustment screw threads into the scope mount. and the threads on the adjuster screw are fine but the scope mount threads are stripped right out. i was thinking of ordering another kjw m700 scope mount but cant seem to find one on the usual sites. was also thinking of getting a real steel one and tapping it.

If you are willing to tap a RS one, why not just re-tap the KJW one you have now?

Jensenman May 17th, 2010 11:24

because re-taping would make it to large for the origional adjustment screw. at least this is what ive been told by a local.

Any idea what the specs for the original screw were? I have zero experience with the KJW M700, but I deal with stripped and damaged threads regularly at work.
Drilling & re-tapping would require changing the original adjustment screw for a larger one; not a problem if it's a normal grub/set screw (headless). You might be able to re-tap to a slightly larger SAE thread (I'm assuming KJW uses metric hardware here); e.g. reaming up a damaged M2.5 threaded hole and re-tapping for a 4-40 screw. Most small-diameter SAE threads are just slightly larger than the nearest metric size.

If all else fails, Heli-Coil sells (somewhat expensive) kits for fixing this sort of problem; it involves drilling & tapping a larger hole, then screwing in a spring-like insert with the original threading inside. A local machine shop would be a good place to ask around for these; my shop has dozens of 'em, all kinds of different threads & lengths.

Its a fairly cheap peice. Try a fill and tap before replacing it.

Cheers

cheap or not i cant seem to find one for replacement. but im definitely going for the fix before buying a replacement
